What Beauty School Can Teach You
If you have a passion for beauty, you’ve probably already thought about beauty schools and what they can teach you. Besides learning about all things beauty, there are numerous skills you’ll learn that will improve your day-to-day life. Let’s first talk about a couple of the programs we offer, then we’ll dive into the lifelong skills you’ll receive while attending beauty school.
Cosmetology
If you’ve always loved playing with the latest hairstyles and trends, then becoming a cosmetologist could be the perfect career for you! Our program consists of 1600 hours and can be completed in as little as 45 weeks. This program focuses primarily on hair, and you’ll learn not only the techniques but also the science behind it all. Here are a few topics we cover in our program:
- Bacteriology
- History of hair, skin, muscles, nails & nerves
- Disease prevention
- Massage
- Haircutting
- Permanent waving
- Hair styling
- Hair coloring
- Idaho state law
- Business training
- Client retention and booking
- Communicating with others

Cosmetologists have many career options they can pursue when they graduate from beauty school. Here are a few popular career options you could choose from:
- Hair stylist
- Platform artist
- Educational consultant
- Salon manager/owner

Nail Technology
If you have a passion for design and art, our nail technology program could be a great fit for you. This is where you learn the art of manicures, pedicures, and additional techniques. The program is 600 hours, which can be completed in as little as either 17 or 23 weeks – depending on if you choose a part time or full time schedule. The nail technology program is broken down as follows:
- Freshman – 50 hours
- Nail Sciences – 250 hours
- Nail Care Services – 250 hours
- Business Skills – 50 hours
Barber Stylist
Our barber stylist program combines skills taught in cosmetology and barbering courses to give our students a unique education. This program consists of 1500 hours, which can be completed in just under a year. The following skills will be taught through practical and theoretical classes:
- Hygiene
- Bacteriology/Infection control
- Business of barbering
- Tools and equipment
- Treatment of the hair and scalp
- Histology of hair, skin, muscles & nerves
- Structure of the head, face, neck & skin
- Chemistry of sterilization & antiseptics
- Diseases of skin, hair, glands, & scalp
- Shaving
- Facial massage and treatments
- Texture service
- Women’s and men’s haircutting/styling
- Hairdressing and color/lightening
- Men’s hair replacement
- Electricity
- Idaho state law

Life-long skills
It’s important to know that beauty school gives you access to a wide variety of skills, including ones you maybe haven’t thought of before. Here are a few additional skills you’ll learn in beauty school.

While attending beauty school, you most likely won’t pick up the new techniques and skills right away. All good things take time, and perfecting your skills won’t happen overnight.
Professionalism
Throughout your beauty school experience, you may be working with real-life clients in our student salon. With this experience, you may learn how to professionally engage with clients and how to act in the salon.
Dedication
As with any new skill, you’ll have to dedicate yourself to studying, practicing, and preparing for your exams. If you carry this level of dedication from beauty school, then you most likely will have a successful career.
Creativity
You’ll discover a whole new level of creativity you never knew existed. As you learn new things and your confidence grows, you’ll be inspired to try new things and really push your limits.
