How to Pay for Cosmetology School

Finding a career that is enjoyable and rewarding isn’t always easy – especially if you prefer more creative environments. One great option to consider is becoming a cosmetologist since this career can open up a lot of doors for all kinds of jobs.

Trained cosmetologists can become:

  • Hairstylists
  • Salon Owners
  • Estheticians
  • Makeup Artists

Plus, the beauty industry is consistently growing. The need for workers in the personal care and beauty industry is always going to be there. Just think about how quickly everyone wanted to go back to their hairstylists after the pandemic! But to become a licensed cosmetologist in Idaho, you need to first attend beauty school.

Sadly, one thing that holds many people back from obtaining their license is the cost of cosmetology school. While it is far cheaper than attending a traditional 4-year college, you still have to pay tuition costs to complete the program.

Thankfully, there are many financial options available to make it affordable. Here are some ways that you can pay for cosmetology school and get started toward the career of your dreams.

Apply for Financial Aid from Your School

Most cosmetology schools have a financial aid department to help you find ways to cover some of the cost of schooling. There are various tuition coverage options available to students who qualify.

Financial aid can also help you connect with federal and state departments for tuition assistance. Again, this coverage is based on various factors and qualifications. Some factors which could reduce the cost of beauty school are your or your parent’s income, number of dependents, and whether you are in the military or a veteran.

You will be able to apply for FAFSA® (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for beauty school. This can be done completely online – and you can receive an estimate for your school cost coverage before applying.

Look into Grants and Scholarships for Cosmetology School

Another option to help you pay for beauty school is to apply for grants and scholarships. There are many different types of scholarship programs available for beauty school students in Idaho, but you will need to apply and qualify to receive them.

Austin Kade Academy offers various scholarships for all of our programs, including cosmetology. We have partnered with Beauty Changes Lives, which is a non-profit that provides hundreds of scholarships every year to beauty school students.

Through this organization, you can find all kinds of scholarships and grant opportunities specifically for cosmetology students. Some of these are specific for schools, states, or regions, while others are nationwide. Our financial aid administrators are also available to help you with the application process as needed.

See How Else You Can Make School Affordable

While you can pay for your entire tuition upfront, most students opt for payment plans. This breaks down schooling costs into monthly payments. At Austin Kade Academy, we allow full-time and part-time students with several finance options, including a payment plan.

Tuition costs can be paid out of pocket or through student loans, which you can pay back after you graduate.

There are many different types of loans that beauty school students can take out. You can qualify for federal government student loans once you enroll. You may also take out loans through banks and private loan institutions to cover your tuition costs.

At Austin Kade Academy, full-time students are in class for a total of 45 weeks to complete the required 1600 hours of training. If you are taking full-time courses, it might be a lot to juggle both work and school! So, another option to consider is taking part-time classes.

Enrolling in our part-time program means that it will take you longer to complete the entire course. Part-time students will finish training over the course of 76 weeks. However, this does give you the chance to spread out payments and balance a job while you complete school.

Should You Enroll?

Don’t let the fear of paying for beauty school hold you back from pursuing the career you’ve always dreamed of. There are plenty of ways to reduce the overall cost of tuition or find ways to make sure you’re able to pay off tuition in a timely manner.
