Finding success in the beauty industry is all about how you can manage your business. Whether you are an esthetician, cosmetologist, nail technician, or other beauty professional. Austin Kade Academy is keenly aware of how important business skills can be for our graduates, which is why one of our owners, Tyler Price, brings his experience to the table to show our students the ropes!

About Tyler Price

Tyler is one of the three owners of Austin Kade Academy. His business experience stretches back over decades, including time working with big names like Franklin Covey, Gateway, and Ford. When his wife, Allison, wanted to open a beauty school, Tyler saw the opportunity to bring business savvy to an industry where many people fall short. His passion is for making connections and building businesses is what makes him irreplaceable as Austin Kade Academy’s educator for business!

Learning Business Practices

Whether you work behind the chair as a stylist, run a salon floor, or own the whole salon yourself, it’s important to learn business fundamentals that can help you be successful. We teach as many of these fundamentals as we can during our different beauty school programs. Here are just a couple of the important lessons that Tyler likes to teach:

1. Set Your Next Appointment TODAY

Client retention is the name of the game in the beauty industry. If you clients keep coming back, it makes growth much easier for you. One of the best ways to keep your clients coming back again and again is to invite them to set their return appointment while they’re still in the building with you. It may require you to keep close track of your scheduled appointments weeks or months ahead of time, but the payoff is that your clients will come back more regularly and consistently. This also reduces instances where flustered clients call asking for services right away. Planning ahead makes things easier for both the cosmetologist and the clients!

2. Upsell With Helpful Intent

Selling can be intimidating for some people, but it’s an essential part of the beauty world. Many people negatively associate upselling with being pushy or confrontational, but it doesn’t have to be that way for your business. If you make genuine recommendations with the intent of helping clients have a better experience and for reaching their personal beauty goals, they are more likely to purchase additional products and services and be satisfied with their experience. When you upsell with the intent of helping others, you can make more money while increasing client satisfaction.

3. Always Talk About Your Business

When you’re a beauty professional, it should be your life. Talking about what you do with passion and excitement with everyone you meet can expand your opportunities to pick up new clients. You never know who you run into that might be looking for a new cosmetologist, barber, or esthetician. Even if they are not the ones to sign up for your services, they may refer their friends and family to your business. The more you talk about what you do, the more people will want to be involved.

PRO TIP! Did you know that over 70% of customers say they are willing to leave a review for a business when asked? It’s true! We strongly recommend Tyler’s advice for sharing your passion for growing your business, and asking for help is a great to build a positive reputation and grow awareness for your business.
